General Summary
The Team Leader – Certification & Technical Services oversees the administration and supervision of assigned team members supporting Certification and Engineering Technical Services activities, including determining work assignment qualifications and associated training. In addition, this position meets or exceeds FAA and customer expectations in product and service quality by establishing priorities, coordinating resources, and supporting timely, professional, and accurate responses for external customers, business partners, and internal stakeholders. This position creates, improves, and holds others accountable for engineering processes that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of certification, technical support, and related Engineering services activities for the department. The Team Leader demonstrates a high level of commitment to customer service and satisfaction; leads by example, fostering a commitment to teamwork and coaching, open communication, and continuous improvement; and accepts responsibility, demonstrates initiative and attention to detail, and projects a professional image consistent with the company’s mission, vision, and core values.
Essential Job Functions
- Promotes growth and development of assigned team members in a professional, accurate, and timely manner. Participates in the interviewing and selection of team members. Monitors and evaluates team member performance. Identifies and recommends technical and non-technical training opportunities for team members to department manager. Oversees and ensures active participation of team members in the departmental mentoring program. Participates in personal and leadership development opportunities and demonstrates leadership and professionalism at all times. Leads teams in identifying and establishing best practices and preferred processes.
- Provides leadership and direction for the Certification and Engineering Technical Services groups, supporting the Project Development Request (PDR) process, Engineering Business Development and Engineering and Certification Services (ECS) activities for external customers, and Technical Support for engineering related requests. Establishes and communicates priorities, coordinates resources, supports enterprise wide Engineering improvement initiatives, and ensures timely, professional, and accurate responses to external customers and business partners. Provides leadership and oversight for Certification Specialists, Certification Coordinators, Engineering Technical Support Specialists, and Subject Matter Experts.
- Makes decisions by defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions based on data from analysis, experience, and familiarity with and application of FAA Regulations, ACs, TCDS, Maintenance Manuals, IPCs, STCs, TSOs, etc. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Applies sound engineering concepts and judgment to practical solutions.
- Mentors and teaches engineering teams and performs team training courses in their particular discipline area, as needed. Assists less experienced team members and new staff to increase the overall skill level of the team on a day-to-day basis. Coordinates with Professional Development to develop and deliver training to production and Engineering departments.
- On an as needed basis, supports Engineering project team requirements by providing complete and accurate engineering data that meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements and established project timelines. Learns and efficiently utilizes the company’s design and engineering product design database. Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of situations where only limited information exists.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Job Specific Requirements
Licenses/Certificates: PE, A&P, IA, FCC preferred
Attendance: Regularly scheduled attendance; occasional overnight travel

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience required
- Minimum 7 years experience in Business and General Aviation aircraft modifications and/or related business and/or engineering experience required
- Proficiency with MS Office required
- Previous experience working with the FAA required
- Previous supervisory and leadership experience required
